Of course there is some link to the their large supplementation of anabolic steroids. Their carbs and fats are about the same as any other bodybuilder, but they increase that protein up to about 1.5 g/ lb bodyweight. Kai Greene and Cutler are about 290-320 lbs, so 1.5 g per lb. = 450 grams or so. What the specifics of high protein intake and high anabolic steroid intake are I do not know. I DO believe however that this high protein intake by steroid users has mislead natural bodybuilders.
Have a friend who is a heavyweight competitive bodybuilder. He also monkeys around with “some” steroids,.but not a lot. He also consumes around 275-300 g protein per day. That’s 1200 cals. But his carbs are around 200g per day. Add some healthy fat cals to that and he’s excatly what he told me he was calorie-wise per day; about 2000-2100. I am NOT sure why the large bodybuilder guys like Kai Greene, Jay Cutler, Dexter Jackson, Ronnie Coleman and a LONG list of others consume that much protein.
Yes I have read MANY stories about VERY high protein intakes by professional b-builders; particularly the very heavyweights. Many of these guys weigh 280-340 lbs. THAT is stunningly large for a bodybuilder! Arnold in his hey day was between 220-240 lbs. I’ve read their protein intakes being of 350-500 g per day. What I’ve also noticed however is that their carbohydrate intake is relatively small; 200-350 g per day, with of course some healthy fat. So their daily cal intake is relatively small.
brushfour I want your take on this.I was watching a kai greene training video for the 2009 olympia and his trainer oscar sais the body can assimilate WAY more than 30 grams of protein a sitting. HE stated Kai Greene was taking 400 to 500 grams of protein a day. But could it just be that steroids grow your muscles so quickly you simply need more protein to fuel the abnormal rapid growth of muscle tissue. So if kai was not on steroids thier would be no reason for the massive protein intake right?
lol brushfour im kinda new on this site and ive been reading alot of the past posts on these videos, and you really destroy guys on debates lol, i actually laugh out loud lol.

I have a question….ummm I am a big looking guy 15, 173. 5′8 and I want to gain muscle…I’m working out alot and eating great, so like can I get buff without losing mscle I want MUSCLE!!!!! lol…btw I am fat lol
Thank you CaseRed,…trying to help who I can. Hopefully some thoughts will get through and when they starts seeing those results, they’ll have enough interest then to learn even more.
Muscle gain is IRON related, training related, not supplement related. They’re related to how much guts you have in the gym to try heavier weight and increase intensity of sets. If you’re training Volume, then it’s also related to shortening rest times between sets and performing good reps. That’s where the game is won. Put hard intense lifting together with hard interval training and THAT is where it makes the difference. Get good rest and ” some” protein in your diet and that’s the recipe.
I’m not going to sugar coat the difficulty of Interval Training. They’re short, but let me tell you SouthStar…they’re tough; both mentally and physically. I trains your body not only for anaerobic power, but trains your system to recuperate in the short rest periods BETWEEN the intervals as fast and an much as it can. You may only be on that stationary bike or treadmill for 25 minutes, but it’s like a 25 minute fight in the ring. Try them out and let me know how it goes.
Southstar, you sound like you know what you’re doing. You’re asking the right questions. Just asking these specific questions tell’s me or anyone who’s well versed, that you’re in the right place. Yeah I used to stand in line at GNC, protein powders, protein bars..the whole bit. I keep VERY detailed journals of my cardio and strength training going back over 11 years now. Tried ALL sorts of daily protein intake levels. There has been…NO difference is strength or muscle gain related to that.
hey thanks alot brushfour, that really helped alot. I alway spend money buying protein powder but i guess ill try without it for couple of weeks, and see how it turns out. Ill also take your advice of the interval training method and see how that turns out as well. thanks for the advice
Hard interval training is better at developing cardiovascular fitness and burns more calories. I only do it once or twice per week however because you need to proper rest after that. Walking and light runs burn less calories but they’re great because you can do them on rest days and they help with muscle recuperation and burn fat calories without tiring you out so much. The ideal is to to BOTH. 1-2 hard cardio days per week, and then walk on other easy days. You’ll get FRIGGIN’ LEAN doing that!
